Thailand 0-1 Australia (15/11/2011)

Bangkok: Australia secured their place in the next phase of qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup with a game to spare after Bret Holman's second-half strike was enough for the Socceroos to see off Thailand 1-0 at the Suphachalasai Stadium on Tuesday.

AZ Alkmaar attacker Holman scored the only goal of the game in the 76th minute for the victory that took their tally to 12 points, which could only be equalled by Saudi Arabia if they win their last two games, which includes a Group D finale against the 2011 AFC Cup runners-up in Australia in February.

Following Friday's 3-0 defeat to Saudi Arabia, the 1-0 loss to the Socceroos ended Thailand's slim chances of a place in the next phase with the three-time ASEAN champions on four points with a trip to the Gulf to face Oman in their final Group D fixture.
