Thai coach impressed by SEA Games squad's fitness (01/11/2011)

Thailand coach Prapol Pongpanich is thrilled with the progress of the squad's fitness ahead of the SEA Games in Indonesia.

Thailand will play their first game against defending champions Malaysia on Nov 9 and Prapol yesterday put his players through their paces at Karon beach in Phuket.

Prapol said: "The players are now getting fit and this is very good for the team. But they must improve their scoring and defending.

"Therefore, the last warm-up match with FC Phuket on Nov 3 will be the test of everything and after this match, the team will be in good shape."

However, midfielder Naruepol Ar-romsawa is struggling with a groin injury and will rest over the next few days.

Thailand manager Kasem Jariyawatwong said: "I have told the players to be very careful with injuries because we only have a week left for the SEA Games. We will leave for Indonesia on Nov 6.

"I told the team doctor to take good care of Naruepol and I hope he will get fit before the first match. I don't want to risk him by playing him in the last warm-up match."
