CALISTO IS A NO-GO (29/09/2011)

Thai Premier League champions Muang Thong United yesterday announced that they had parted company with coach Henrique Calisto but insisted it was by "mutual consent."

"Muang Thong United Football Club and coach Mr Henrique Calisto have come to a mutual agreement to cancel their contract," a statement read.

"The agreement was reached by both parties that he will discontinue as head coach of the club from September 29, 2011."
Assistant coach Sarawut Treephan will be in charge in Muang Thong's match against SCG Samut Songkhram in the Thai Premier League tomorrow, according to the club's official declaration.

The club are hoping Sarawut can bring more fortune as Calisto's removal came after Muang Thong were eliminated in the AFC Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday as they continue to look a shadow of the side they were last season.

They are currently in third place and sit 12 points behind leaders Buriram PEA with little hope of catching them although they do have two games in hand.

Calisto was appointed Muang Thong coach earlier this year after replacing Carlos Roberto Carvalho.

Carvalho's reign lasted just weeks as he was sacked after the Kirins were knocked out in the AFC Champions League qualifying .
