Chelsea cruise to 4-0 win over All-Stars (24/07/2011)

Chelsea eased to a comfortable 4-0 victory over the Thai Premier League All-Stars yesterday to win the Coke Super Cup in front of 40,000 fans at Rajamangala Stadium yesterday. All the Chelsea stars got a workout in an entertaining game in which the All-Stars team played their part.

Although Chelsea dominated the first half, the first goal did not come until the 38th minute when Nicolas Anelka set up Frank Lampard whose shot from just outside the area beat the Thai goalkeeper.

Chelsea did not have it all their own way and Buriram's Frank Acheampong and Lazarus Kumbe of Osotspa both caused problems for the Blues' defence.

Therdsak Chaiman, the TPL All Stars captain also showed some nice touches.

Chelsea went in at the interval with a 1-0 lead.

The visitors added to their lead early in the second half in rather fortunate fashion.

A speculative cross by Jose Boswinga was totally misjudged by goalkeeper Pattarakorn Tanganurat who could only help punch the ball into the net for a soft goal.

Chelsea were quickly 3-0 up in the 52nd minute when Branislav Ivanovic beat the offside trap and shot past the keeper.

Florent Malouda rounded off the scoring for Chelsea in the 72nd minute.

The result was an improvement on the Blues' uninspiring 1-0 win over Malaysia earlier in the week.

Chelsea manager Andre Villas Boas, said he was very impressed by the enthusiasm shown by the Thai and Malaysian fans.

He said the All-Star team had given his side a good game and had troubled the defence on occasions.

Villas Boas said he was not worried about Fernandio Torres not scoring, "I am more interested in how we play as a team," he said.

All-Stars coach, Piyapong Pue-on said he was pleased with his side's performance.

"We did well to restrict the score to 1-0 in the first half. It was a pity we let in an early goal in the second half."

He said the TPL players learned a lot from the match.

Chelsea will leave for Hong Kong today for the last leg of their Asian Tour.
