Thais race to replace backroom staff (13/07/2011)

Football Association of Thailand general secretary Ongart Kohsinkha said he would find replacements soon for two backroom staff who failed to turn up for duty under national coach Winfried Schaefer.

The first leg of Thailand's World Cup secondround qualifying tie against Palestine is scheduled for July 23 at Buriram PEA's IMobile stadium. Instead of focusing on the players, the German coach has had to deal with offfield matters, after the goalkeeping coach and a physiotherapist were found to be absent from the training camp.

Ongart said the association is aware of the potential effect on the team's preparations and has already started its search for new personnel.

"Schaefer has asked us to help him find replacements. I guess the two guys, who went back home, have accepted contracts elsewhere. We offered them fourmonth deals with salaries of around US$9,000 a month.

"One night, they called me and asked for an advance on their salary. I told them I would talk to them the next day, but they left. If they had wanted a longterm contract, it would not have been a problem.

"They hadn't started their work so we didn't know whether they were good or not," said Ongart .
