Thailand to train in Chiang Mai or Phuket (03/07/2011)

Football Association of Thailand president Worawi Makudi wants the national side to train in Chiang Mai or Phuket to prepare for this month's World Cup qualifier.

Thailand are likely to meet Palestine in Asia's second qualifying round for the 2014 World Cup as the Palestinians secured a 2-0 away win against Afghanistan in the first leg.

Palestine are at home in the second leg today and newly-appointed Thailand coach Winfried Schaefer will be at the stadium.

Worawi said yesterday he wanted the national team to train in Chiang Mai or Phuket before their first-leg match against Palestine or Afghanistan on July 23 at I-Mobile stadium in Buri Ram.

The next day after the home leg, the national side will leave for the second leg, he said.

FAT secretary-general Ong-arj Kosinkha said that after checking records it was found that Teerathorn Boonmathan was suspended for the first leg.

Thailand were booted out of the Olympic qualifying round after they fielded a suspended player against Palestine who lost to the Thais on penalties after two legs.

Thai officials blamed the match commissioner for not informing them that the player was suspended .
