Charnwit so confident (November 23, 2006)
Thailand head coach Charnwit Phalajivin has set the semi-finals at the Asian Games as the target for his side. Charnwit, who left with the team for Doha yesterday, was brimming with confidence as the national team prepares for battle in the Middle East.
''Right now, our team is ready for everything,'' he said.
''I am confident the team will reach the last four.
''We know that the Thai people are looking forward to seeing the team do well.''
However, Charnwit said he was concerned about the weather in Qatar, where the BBC report it is currently around 25C during the day and 19C at night.
''I am worried about the weather because it will be quite cold,'' he said.
''The players may not have time to get used to it because we have our first game against Palestine on Tuesday.
''We are playing a practice game against a local side on Saturday to try and prepare.''
Concerns that Palestine may withdraw from the tournament are fading because the country is still named as a competitor.
Football Association of Thailand president Vijitr Getkaew travelled to Suvarnabhumi airport to wish the team good luck before they set off for the competition.
''I hope they do well,'' said Vijitr.
''We know it will not be easy for the team in the competition but I saw them training under head coach Charnwit and I am confident they will reach the semi-final.
''I hope that we will win a medal.''
Thailand's second match will be with Yemen on December 2 and the third match will be against Kuwait on December 5.SQUAD
