Thai Port FC take Toyota Premier Cup (14/02/2011)

Thai Port FC captured the Toyota Premier Cup after beating the Japanese side, Shonan Bellmare 2-1 at Supachalasai stadium yesterday.

A good crowd was on hand to cheer the Port side and they put pressure on the Japanese team right from the start.

The local side were rewarded for their efforts when the Brazilian, Mario da Silva put them ahead after 15 minutes.

Port kept up the pressure throughout the half but were thwarted by some desperate defending and fine goalkeeping.

The second half got a bit rough with the Japanese side committing many fouls.

Port added to their lead in the 83rd minute when Jacob Aikhionbare scored.

Shonan Bellmare's Kaoru Takayama hit back with a fine late goal but it was not enough and Port were crowned champions of the Toyota Premier Cup.

Meanwhile, in the only Thailand Premier League match yesterday TTM FC Phichit defeated newcomers Chiang Rai United 3-1 .
