Buriram off to winning start at BEC (13/02/2011)
Big-spending Buriram PEA got off to a winning start to the new Thai Premier League season with a 2-1 victory at BEC Tero Sasana yesterday.
At Thephatsdin stadium, Thailand midfielder Suchao Nutnum gave the visitors the lead after 25 minutes and Sariff Sainui doubled the scoreline in the 48th minute.
National striker Teerathep Winothai cut the deficit in the 83rd minute. The Fire Dragons threw everything at the Thunder Castle in the final minutes but could not get an equaliser.
Last year's runners-up Buriram PEA, owned by political heavyweight Newin Chidchob, is spending around 120 million baht to strengthen the squad.
The transfer market for foreign players closed on Wednesday but clubs can still buy local players until early next month.
Bangkok Glass, seen as a dark horse for the title, suffered a bad start when they lost 2-1 at Pattaya United.
