Asian Games journey starts today (November 22, 2006)
Thailand's Asian Games team leave for Qatar today ready to kick off their campaign against Palestine on Tuesday. Coach Charnwit Phalajivin said he hoped the extra time in the middle-eastern country would help the players adjust to the conditions.
''We want our players to get used to the weather in the region,'' he said.
There are still concerns over whether Palestine will attend the tournament, due to ongoing political problems in their country.
Charnwit said he was just concentrating on the job in hand.
''I don't know whether Palestine will withdraw from the Asian Games or not,'' he said.
''We will continue our preparations as normal because we must get ready for the competition.''
In the previous Asian Games in Busan, South Korea four years ago, Thailand finished fourth in the tournament. This year Thailand are in Group C along with Palestine, Yemen and Kuwait.
Following the clash with Palestine, Thailand tackle Yemen on December 2 and Kuwait on December 5.
