Worawi wants changes to TPL schedule (22/01/2011)
Thai football chief Worawi Makudi wants Thai Premier League matches to be scheduled for weekends only.
However, Thai Premier League Co chairman Vichit Yamboonruang argues that his suggestion is not possible.
According to the original programme, the new season kicks off on Feb 12 and the first half of the campaign ends on June 12. The second part of the season will begin on July 9 and continue until Oct 2.
After yesterday's meeting between officials from the Football Association of Thailand, TPL Co and other agencies, FAT president Worawi said there should be changes to the initial schedule.
TPL matches should not be played in midweek because clubs would get lower income, Worawi said.
He also suggested that there should be a break during the monsoon season (around June to July) because it could be difficult for fans to go to stadiums during that period.
Vichit said it would be impossible for all TPL matches to be played on weekends because teams have to play in the FA Cup and League Cup.
He said the second half of the season may be extended to end in November or December to make way for a break during the monsoon season.
But this would cause another problem as the SEA Games will take place in November and clubs may not want to release their players for duty, Vichit said.
