Worawi set to retain FIFA role (05/01/2011)
Football Association of Thailand president Worawi Makudi looks certain to retain his post on FIFA's executive board when the Asian Football Confederation's general assembly meets in Doha tomorrow.
Initially, the meeting's focus had been the election for the post of the AFC president, but since no candidate has been put forward to challenge incumbent president Mohamad Bin Hammam, the spotlight has turned on the election for the AFC's executive board.
Worawi, who has been FAT president on a caretaker basis since his term ended last week, is expected to face no opposition to retaining his AFC role on Fifa's 24member executive board, a post he has held since 1997. Needing 46 membercountry votes, Worawi has reportedly secured 12 votes from Asean nations and another 12 from the Middle East, with South Asian countries such as India and Sri Lanka also expected to give him their support .
