Laeng leaves Europe for TPL (21/07/2010)

Bangkok: Switzerland-born Thailand international Peter Laeng has joined Bangkok Glass as the 24-year-old midfielder swaps the Switzerland Challenge League for the Thailand Premier League.

Laeng opted against renewing his contract with Swiss second division side FC Schaffhausen, where he spent the last three years, and reportedly turned down offers from clubs in Germany and Indonesia to play his club football in the homeland of his mother.

“After three years with Schaffhausen, I was looking for a new challenge,” Laeng said in an interview with thai-fussball.de.

“A crucial factor was how keen Bangkok Glass were to get me under contract. I talked to the president, the manager and the coach.

“Besides I really had a good feeling. I want to give something in return to the fans in Thailand. They have supported me all the time.”

Laeng featured in two of Thailand’s AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2011™ qualifying campaign matches, coming on to replace Melbourne Victory defensive midfielder Surat Sukha in the 54th minute of the 3-1 win over Singapore before replacing Indonesia-based Pipat Thonkanya with six minutes of the return fixture remaining as the Lions won 1-0 in Bangkok.
