PIPAT DELIVERS THAI FA CUP TO THAI PORT (26 October 2009)
BANGKOK (27 Oct 2009) – International Pipat Thonkanya was the hero for Thai Port FC when he converted the winning penalty to beat BEC Tero Sasana 5-4 in the shootout in the final of the Thai FA Cup.
The win has also earned Thai Port FC a place in the AFC Cup 2010.
Despite being against a large turnout of Thai Port fans at the Supachalasai Stadium, BEC Tero took the lead in the 14th minute when Wuttichai Tathong headed home an inviting cross from Noppol Pitafai.
But Thai Port drew level nine minutes later when former Shanghai Shenhua striker Edvaldo made good on a rebound following the failure of BEC Tero keeper Sivaruck Tedsungnoen to make a clean save.
Both side failed to change the score sheet at the end of regulation of extra-time to send the final into penalty shootout.
With both side converting the first four attempts, the failure of BEC Tero skipper Thritthi Nonsrichai’s to score gave the advantage to Thai Port.
And Pipat, who had played for BEC in the 2006/07 season, did not miss from the spot.
