Thailand U-16 begin with a bang (10 October 2009)

BANGKOK: Hosts Thailand began their campaign in the AFC U-16 Championship 2010 qualifiers with a bang thrashing Cambodia 8-0 at the Royal Thai Army Stadium on Friday.

Korea Republic , however, were held to a goalless draw by Myanmar in another Group G game while their Northern neighbours DPR Korea defeated Vietnam 2-1.

Striker Prakasit Khamkhong smashed four goals while Kittisak Hochin netted two. Kasidech Wattayawong and Itthiphon Yotphrom also joined the goal feast with a goal each.

Ju Jong Chol scored the match-winner for DPR Korea five minutes from time after Jo Kwang’s 23rd-minute opener was cancelled out by Vietnam’s Vo Ngoc Duc six minutes into the restart.

Thailand will face Vietnam, DPR Korea will take on Myanmar while Cambodia will meet Korea Republic on Sunday.
