Reid happy with players' fitness level (November 21, 2008)

Thailand coach Peter Reid is pleased with the fitness of his players but has threatened to axe anyone who is not fit enough.

Thailand are training at Suranaree University of Technology as part of their preparations for next month's AFF Suzuki Cup or the Asean championship.

Reid said the fitness of the players had reached 90% since he took charge a couple of months ago.

Apart from training, the players have to go to the gym and swim to improve their fitness.

To avoid distraction, the players are not allowed to play in any tournament for their clubs at the moment.

"They have to concentrate on training. We are working for the country and our aim is to win the tournament," said the former England international.

They will play three warm-up matches - against TOT on Nov 24, Korat Army on Nov 26 and Korat XI on Nov 28.

Reid has banned journalists from talking to the players or shooting photos during training.

This is allowed only after a training session in a designated area.

At the AFF Suzuki Cup (formerly Tiger Cup) to be held in Thailand and Indonesia, Thailand are in Group B along with Vietnam, Malaysia and Laos.
