Thailand coach Chanvit Phalajivin reiterated yesterday that he will step down after his side's last World Cup qualifying match.

Thailand, who lost 3-0 to Japan in Bangkok on Saturday, have only one point from five games and are bottom of Asia's Group Two of World Cup qualification.

They will play in Oman, who are also out of contention, in their final match on June 22.

Chanvit said it was the coach's responsibility if the team fails to deliver and that he would likely become the Football Association of Thailand's (FAT) chairman of the technical development committee.

For Thailand to become successful at a high level, they need a strong domestic league, good management and support from fans, he said.

''We are now far behind Japan and other Asian powerhouses.

''We have to be patient for success. We cannot become successful overnight,'' he said.
