Thailand suffer triple injury trouble (June 02, 2008)

Teerasil, Kiatprawut and Sutee may be out

Thailand are sweating on the fitness of key players Teerasil Dangda, Kiatprawut Saiwaew and Sutee Suksomkit ahead of tonight's do-or-die World Cup qualifier against Bahrain. Coach Chanvit Phalajivin said the trio could miss the crunch match, which kicks off at Rajamangala stadium at 6.30pm (Channel 7 televise live).

''If they can't play then we will have a lot of problems,'' said Chanvit.

''We will have to see what happens.''

Thailand must win tonight to keep their slim hopes of qualifying for the World Cup alive after losing both of their previous outings.

Thailand were beaten 4-1 away to Japan in February, and then suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat at home to Oman in March.

However, confidence may have been boosted by last week's 2-1 friendly win over Asian champions Iraq, which followed Thailand Premier League All-Stars' 3-1 humbling of Manchester City, who are owned by Thaksin Shinawatra.

Chanvit know he has to get things right this evening.

''This is the match that will decide whether we are on the way to the Asian second stage or not,'' he said.

''We have to win this match and it is important not to let them score a quick goal.''

Bahrain are at the top of Group B with six points after beating Oman and Japan 1-0.

Bahrain coach Milan Macala has had the side stationed in Singapore for a week to adjust to the weather in the region.

Bahrain host Thailand on June 7 in another qualifier, but the match will be irrelevant for the Thai side if they fail to secure three points today.

Elsewhere today, Japan host Oman. Japan will travel to Thailand for a June 14 match before the Thai team's final qualifying game in Oman on June 22.

Tickets for tonight's match are available at the stadium priced 100, 200, 300 and 500 baht from 2pm.
