Football Association of Thailand president Worawi Makudi approved the resignation of national team manager Kittiratt Na Ranong yesterday. Kittiratt announced his intention to quit after Thailand suffered a 1-0 home defeat against Oman in a World Cup qualifier last week.

Kittiratt said he felt honoured to have been appointed team manager but he had to resign to shoulder responsibility for Thailand's loss.

Worawi said that it was a pity to see the departure of a hard working man and that he had tried to talk to Kittiratt but he would not answer his phone.

Worawi said he would not appoint a new manager immediately and that coach Chanvit Phalajivin would take full control of the national team with FAT secretary-general Ong-art Kohsinkha looking after administration.

Thailand's defeat against Oman was their second in their opening two games in Group B with the top two sides advancing to the next qualifying stages.

They cannot afford any more slip-ups if they are to progress past Group B, which also includes Japan and Bahrain. Thailand's next game will be against group leaders Bahrain in Bangkok on June 2.
