Thailand face Japan, Oman and Bahrain (November 26, 2007)

Thailand have been drawn in a difficult group with Japan and two Middle East teams, Oman and Bahrain for the group stage of the World Cup Asian qualifying round.

''It's a tough group,'' said Thai coach Chanvit Phalajivin. ''Japan play a very high standard. However I think we are capable of beating Bahrain and Oman.''

Chanvit said he was aiming to get Thailand into the following round which will be the final 10 teams which will play in two groups of five.

''We will probably need to get 10 points, so that means something like three draws away, and at home two wins and a draw.''

The first match of the group stage will be on February 6.

Thailand have reached the present stage with wins over Macau and Yemen.
