Support for national team (July 20, 2006)
Managing director of Dhospaak Communications Vorawut Rojanapanich has been appointed chairman of a special project to get the best out of the Thai football team at the Asian Games in December. President of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) Vijitr Getkaew announced the project during the presentation of prizes to the Thailand Premier League teams at the Radisson hotel yesterday.
''Mr Vorawut will look after everything including finding sponsorship for the team,'' he said.
Thavatchai 'Big Hoy' Sajakul will remain team manager with his two deputies being Kasem Jariyawatwong and Virach Charnpanich. Charnwit Phalajivin remains head coach.
''We will be watching the progress of the team's training closely at the National Football Training Centre, Nong Chok,'' said Mr Vijitr.
Mr Vorawut, who is also deputy president of FAT, said he saw the upcoming Asian Games as a first step in Thailand's preparations for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
''We need 100 million baht in sponsorship so we want both the government and private companies to support us,'' he said.
''I am confident we can build up the Thai team so they will be strong enough to reach the 2010 World Cup finals.
Head coach Charnwit has called 27 players for training to prepare for the Asian Games.
There will be six major tournaments for Thailand in the next two years. They are the Asian Games in Doha, Qatar from December 1-15 (U23 team), the Tiger Cup early next year, the pre-Olympic 2008 in February (U21 team), the Asian Cup from July 7-19, the World University Games in August and the SEA Games in Thailand in December.
