Chanvit names final squad (July 06, 2007)

Thailand yesterday named their final 23 players for the Asian Cup with seven of the squad getting the axe. Dropped from the initial squad are Sarayud Chaikamdee, Prat Samakrat, Kraikiat Beadtaku, Kwanchai Phuangprakob, Jakkrit Bunkham, Narongchai Vachiraban and Punnarat Klinsukon.

Team manager, Kittirat Na Ranong said the first match against Iraq tomorrow was very important.

''We have no other target than to win that match,'' he said.

Coach, Chanvit Phalajivin said he had been studying videos of the Iraq team.

''They are a strong side with tall players and good zoning in defence,'' he said. ''However I think we can beat them.''

Chanvit said he planned to start the match with the team which beat Qatar 2-0 in a recent warm-up.

He said he wasn't bothered about the current rainy weather and felt his team would adapt to the conditions better than the Middle East teams.

The colour of Thailand's uniform was also announced yesterday. Against Iraq Thailand will wear red and Iraq white. In the second game against Oman Thailand will be in blue and Oman red. In the final first round match against Australia, Thailand will wear red while the Socceroos will be in blue.
