Thailand to give foreign based players an outing (June 28, 2007)

Thailand's head coach plans to line up the four foreign based players for the warm-up match against Qatar this Saturday. The match will kick off at 6.30 pm at Rajamangala stadium and will be shown live on Channel 7.

After nearly three weeks of training in Germany, the team yesterday went to the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) for fitness tests and the staff coaches said they were pleased with the results.

The four foreign based players, Therdsak Chaiman, Sutee Suksomkit, Nirut Surasiang and Datsakorn Thonglao also joined the training camp yesterday.

Head coach Chanvit Phalajivin said he would play all four in the match against Qatar.

''We want to see how their fitness compares to the rest of the tean,'' said Chanvit.

He admitted he was finding it tough to decide on the Asian Cup squad. ''They have all been playing well and they are all fit,'' he said.

Chanvit said his immediate target in the Asian Cup was to get past the first round. ''I think we will have close games with all three opponents. We will have to work hard and need 6-7 points to get us through.''

Therdsak said he was fit and the other three foreign-based players were also in good shape.

''Our team is much better than when we were in the Asian Cup last time,'' he said. ''During that time we were in a tough group and did not prepare well. But this time, we are playing in our home soil, we have to do our best.''

He said the first match against Iraq was the key. ''If we don't get at least a point then it will be difficult,'' he said.
