Thailand sent packing by powerful Japan (May 18, 2007)
Thailand were knocked out of the Asian Futsal Championship yesterday when they were beaten 9-6 by hosts Japan at Osaka Municipal Central Gymnasium. The Thai team put up a good fight and were leading 2-1 early on, but the more experienced Japanese team took control after that.
After a bright start, Thailand found themselves down 4-2 at half time.
Japan stretched their lead to 6-2 at one stage but the Thai team fought back in the end to restrict Japan to a 9-6 victory.
On target for Thailand were Panomkorn Saisorn (3), Panuwat Jantha (2) and Joe Nuengkerd.
Thai coach Pattaya Piemkum, said his team had played quite well but were a bit erratic in defence.
''I'm sorry for the Thai fans that we didn't win, but it was good experience for the team,'' he said.
