Strong Dutch squad for Thai friendly (12 May 2007)



BANGKOK: A strong Dutch squad will provide a stern test to AFC Asian Cup 2007 co-hosts Thailand in a crucial preparatory friendly on June 6 at the Rajamangala Stadium.


This will be the first time the Netherlands play in Thailand and among the star players are Chelsea's Arjen Robben, Liverpool's Dirk Kuyt and Arsenal's Robin van Persie.


The Dutch side, which is coached by former striker Marco Van Basten, also boasts of Manchester United goalie Edwin van der Sar, defender Giovanni van Bronckhorst (Barcelona), and striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (Celtic).


They will also play friendlies against China (May 16) and Qatar (June 30) before their AFC Asian Cup 2007 opener against Iraq on July 7.
