Coach plays down chances (May 10, 2007)

National football team head coach Chanvit Phalajivin has asked fans not to expect too much when Thailand play China in a warm-up match for the Asian Cup at Rajamangala Stadium next Wednesday. ''Because of Thailand Premier League fixtures this weekend we can only get the players together for training after Sunday,'' he said.


Chanvit said there would be about 30 players in the squad. ''For the match against China I just want to see which players are ready for the Asian Cup and where there are any weaknesses. So please don't expect too much.''


He said he would be happy for Thai stars currently playing in Vietnam and Singapore to join the squad, but he does not know whether their clubs will make them available.


The match next Wednesday will kick off at 6.30 pm. Tickets will be available at the stadium priced 100 and 200 baht.


Meanwhile, president of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT), Mr Worawi Makudi who attended the AFC meeting in Malaysia. has retained his position as Fifa Executive Committee member for the next four years.


He also said the AFC was pleased at the response for tickets for the Asian Cup matches to be played in Bangkok.

July 7: Thailand v Iraq; July 8: Oman v Australia (priced 150, 250, 500 and 800 baht)


July 12: Thailand v Oman; July 13 Australia v Iraq (priced 100, 200, 400 and 700 baht)


July 16: Thailand v Australia (100, 200, 400 and 700 baht) and Oman v Iraq (priced 100, 200 and 300 baht)


All matches to be played at Rajamangala stadium apart from the Oman v Iraq game which will be played at Supachalasai stadium.
