Thailand League champions Bangkok University lost 1-0 away to the Indonesia's Arema Malang yesterday in Group F of the Asian Champions League, meaning the Thai team will not be able to advance to the next round. Heavy rain at Gajayana Stadium, Malang city, made the game a scrappy affair and the teams went in at the interval 0-0 after very few chances.

The Indonesian side scored the crucial goal in the 56th minute through Cameroon defender Bruno Casimir.

In a rough match Arema Malang were eventually reduced to nine men but managed to hold on to their lead. Defender Suroso was sent off in the 61st minute for a bad tackle and forward Basile Essa Mvondod received his marching orders just before the final whistle.

Bangkok University coach, Somchai Supperm praised the Arema team. ''It was a close game but they played well even with nine men.''

In the other match of the same group, Kawasaki Frontale defeated South Korea's Chunnam Dragons 3-0 at Kawasaki Todoroki Stadium in Japan..

Only the top team advances to the next round.

Bangkok University will next play against Chunnam Dragons on May 9 in South Korea.
