FAT secretary general Worawi Makudi was elected as the new FAT chief yesterday.

He was the only candidate for the job and has been given a two-year term.

The election was held at the National Football Training Centre in Nong Jok and 118 of a possible 151 votes went to the winner.

Worawi has served as the FAT secretary general for 12 years and takes from Vijitr Getkaew, who stepped down on March 8.

After winning, Worawi said: "I would like to thank Vijitr for supporting and guided me all the time.

"This new job is a challenge and I would like everyone to help me to take Thai football forward.

"We must push Thai football to improve at international level because that is what the Thai people want."

He wants to develop junior football across the country in the hope of qualifying for the World Cup in the future.

Worawi is the 15th FAT president and he is the former team manager of the U17 team that qualified for the World Championship seven years ago.

He joined the FAT during Pol Lt-Gen Chalor Kerdthes' reign before working his way up the ranks.

He is also an AFC committee member and on the Fifa executive board.

The next secretary general will be announced later this month.
